Gets Jalapeno Business!
And its been all up in my business…or rather, my plate.
I LOVE this pepper, especially in my pho noodles and sangchu ssam (상추쌈).
Jalapenos add the perfect amount of heat and flavor to food and I’ve been tossing them in my meals every chance I get. It all started when I was making pico de gallo one day. Typically, i buy jalapenos individually but my recent visit to the Asian market introduced me to a deal I couldn’t refuse. For a buck, I could get close to a dozen meaty, fresh, crunchy jalapeno peppers! But what would I do with all the extras? I decided I’d figure it out when the time came.
The time came and I had no more ingredients to make salsa. My go-to idea was to toss them in my next bowl of ramen (which is DELICIOUS) but I wanted to try something different…this was the result:
Tonkatsu with pan-fried green beans and jalapenos, seasoned with McCormick seasoning (ok, so I cheat…I like savory!)
While it’s not the greatest thing for someone who has heart burn to consume, there are some great health benefits to eating jalapeno peppers:
They contain capsaicin, which is a kick-ass compound packed with antioxidants that has numerous health benefits, from reducing cholesterol and triglycerides to fighting inflammation (ironically).
If you have any quick and easy jalapeno recipes using simple ingredients, I’d love to know!
